Intimacy Direction Workshop
Theatre Sarnia is thrilled to announce that we will be hosting an Intimacy Direction workshop this April, led by our very own Henri Canino (33 Variations, Girls Like That, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, 42nd Street, and more).
In this workshop, we will explore the vital role of an intimacy director and the transformative benefits they can bring to a production. We will focus on ways to create safe and supportive rehearsal environments, emphasizing the importance of consent and establishing clear boundaries. We’ll discuss techniques such as open questioning, boundary check-ins, and the significance of opening and closing rituals to assist actors during vulnerable moments.
Additionally, we’ll look at the typical timeline and process for an intimacy director, highlighting how they collaborate with the director and creative team to enhance the overall production. Together, we will delve into specific techniques for choreographing intimacy, ensuring that every performer feels respected and empowered. This workshop may be particularly beneficial for current or future directors, but would be equally as educational for team members and performers alike.
