SWIFF 2018: MOUTHPIECE

SWIFF PRESENTS SWIFF 2018: MOUTHPIECE

Sarnia's own Patricia Rozema returns to SWIFF with a potent exploration of how women across generations contend with their own socialization. Rozema knots together the thematic threads of her past work — feminist consciousness, the struggle for self-expression — into one of her most vibrant films to date.

Cassandra, a troubled Toronto writer divided against herself and, thus, played simultaneously by Amy Nostbakken and Norah Sadava (who also wrote the script, adapted from their award-winning two-woman stage play). In this adaptation of the play of the same name, the conflicting dialogue in Cassandra's head is brilliantly expressed by two performers: its original creators Amy Nostbakken and Norah Sadava.

The interplay between the physically mismatched, misanthropically aligned leads is a sardonic wonder to behold as Rozema and her collaborators create a compelling portrayal of the tension between regression and progress that is often found within the modern woman.
